In its September 1955 issue, Motor Trend selected the Thunderbird as one of the six best-looking cars of 1955. “Overall consistency of design. Width, height, length ratios show excellent proportion,” noted Motor Trend. “Its small hardtop version has a very classic look.” This stands true over 60 years later. The dashboard features an am/fm radio with tape deck, tachometer, oil pressure reader, electrical output monitor, and clock.
Original car, including the original 6v electrical system and all power options available in 1955: power steering, power brakes, power windows, and power seat. It is an automatic. The interior is in very good condition.
This appears to be an “older” restoration which was done with meticulous attention to detail – for example, all wire clips (including all the spark plug wire harness supports) are there (no zip-ties, etc.) and the cork baffle on the air cleaner is painted silver (not left natural).
Car has the engine compartment “dress up” option (finned aluminum valve covers, chrome air cleaner, etc.) – everything is clean (little or no pitting). Carburetor is correct. Car has windshield washer option (foot operated pump). Original drum brakes all. Horns and directional indicators work. Trunk has original style rubber floor mat. Chassis is clean with little rust, even the crimp edge under the doors is straight and intact.
Car has both the removable hard top and soft top. Tops have original style hold-down handles (dogleg-style at rear) with only minor pitting. Not much wear on receptacle plates. Paint is very good, with only one or two local imperfections (one quarter sized on the driver’s side fender).
This American classic car runs & drives great. 1955 Thunderbird convertible for sale is ready to head on down to the local cruise-in, drive-in movie or road trip!
